Here’s the final match of Short Hills’ season long Member / Member match tournament. I couldn’t be happier since these are the buddies that I golf with every Wednesday and Saturday. This final match went the entire 18 ... and ... an extra hole before it was final. It the end, Mark Parkinson and Greg Ricke came from behind to beat Marty Davis and Pat Brorby on the 19th hole. Then ... we went straight to the 19th hole to celebrate! :-) Check out these photos from the back nine during this hard fought match.

Brian Soucinek tees off during a 4 team playoff to determine 3rd place at Short Hill’s team play event. Ben Hansen’s team won the event going away ...
The extended playoff delayed the annual cardboard regatta. It was a beautiful day so no one minded. Another great fun event at the pool.
I grabbed a few photos of golf, cardboard boat races and people around the pool. Take a look.

This year we had even more to celebrate at our annual Staff Appreciation party at Short Hills Country Club. As always, we want to acknowledge our great staff and thank them for all they do for us. THANK YOU!
This year we also had some additional “virtual members” of our staff to thank. The staff from other clubs that came out to help us out in our hour of need as we recovered from the storm damage from June. Thanks to them we were able to get the golf course back in record fashion. THANK YOU!
Krista and Lynn pose here for a quick snapshot. A few others are here.

We were at Carlos O’Kelley’s for dinner since our power was out (turned out is was out for 3 days) when I received an innocent enough call saying “you might want to come out here and take a look”. It was Short Hills and I was SHOCKED when I went to see the damage caused by some “high straight line winds”. Well they were straight … straight across Short Hills holes 9, 8, 6, 4, 2, 3, 15, 17, and 13. What a mess it was as you can see in the photos I grabbed the next evening.
You could hear chainsaws running 7x24 for the next couple of weeks as our grounds crew did an amazing job cleaning it all up. You can hardly notice the damage anymore.

Celebrating the last weekend of summer, Short Hills held the annual cardboard regatta. The quality of the boats this year is definitely up … as well as consumption of duck tape. Is there cardboard inside there???As you can see, everyone had a great time.

It was quite the dog fight. Clay Lee and Adam White battled it down to the final hole of a 36 hole match to determine the winner. In the end Adam White was victorious as our Short Hills Country Club Champion … now two years running.
The match was tied “all square” after the first 18 holes. Then in the second 18 holes Adam White built a commanding lead to be three up with five to play. Clay had a few great holes and battled back to one down with one to play, but ran into some tree issues on 18.
All the while our Club Pro was tweeting the status of the match. At least a tweet a hole. This made it very easy to follow and the current status was always clear. Nice addition this year Brian,
Congratulations to Adam White
, our 2012 Short Hills Country Club Champion. Here are a few photos of the Championship Match.
Congratulations also go to our other flight winners:
Championship B Flight – Will Wallace
Directors Flight – Robert Wunder
Professionals Flight – Pat Brorby
Superintendents Flight – Ron Williams
Managers Flight – Dean Bull
Women’s Flight – Patti Lee

The former first lady of Short Hills, Laurie Dalfonso, joins the Almost Brothers for a little impromptu “Mammas and Pappas” (At least I recall California Dreaming … :-). We had approximately 150 members and guests come out for the summer party event at Short Hills. It was great seeing all the old gang and a number of new acquaintances as well.
When guests arrived they were greeted by the president Craig Thatcher, and his wife LeAnne, as well as the head of Entertainment Tim Newcomb and his wife Carolyn. After a complimentary Blue Hawaiian the guests moved to the patio to listen to the Almost Brothers and to the ballroom where the chef had quite a selection of Pacific / Asian / Tropical fair. The coconut shrimp and the teriyaki shrimp were my personal favorites.
Of course there was socializing and dancing poolside on the patio, on the deck, in the Pavilion, and in the Ballroom. It was a perfect evening and a great event.
I didn’t stay very long as I wanted to make it an early evening as I’m off to Germany in the morning. Still, I was able to grab a few photos

132 of the nation’s best junior’s golfers came to Short Hills for a week full of golf. It was pretty humbling to see these kids with the grooved swing throwing darts at our greens. I loved the buzz. Here are a few photos of the second round.

Kimberly channels her inner “Martha Stewart” for this year’s Santa Brunch.
We had great food, met with good friends, and were visited by Santa and Mrs. Claus with presents for all the children. Another very successful Santa Brunch at Short Hills Country Club. See the photos and feel free to “right click” and download for your own use. Of course, you can always order a print for a nominal fee.

A few of the “girls” and their gingerbread houses.
It was another very successful kids and family event at Short Hills Country Club. This time the kids made gingerbread houses in the ballroom while the parents “socialized” next door in the Pavilion. Fun was had by all. Here are a few photos of the event.

It was quite the turn out! 47 kids carving away at pumpkins while moms and dads socialized in the pavilion. These kids always make great photo subjects. See for yourself!
